My favorite Virginia Winery

To start my first post, I thought I would keep it local and discuss my favorite Virginia wine. There are over 130 vineyards that call Virginia home. In fact, there are less than a handful of places that you can hide in Virginia and be more than 30 miles from a vineyard. With more than 130 wineries, I cannot claim to have sampled wine from nearly a quarter of what VA has to offer. With that said, Prince Michel is my longstanding and current #1.
The first time I experienced the Cab from Prince Michel my girlfriend and I were visiting the Massanutten resort for the weekend. The wonderful Fairways restaurant passionately keeps Prince Michel on hand. For newcomers to Cabernet Sauvignon or wine in general, I thought the wine was very fruity, full bodied, with a pleasant finish. I paired it with one of the most succulent strip steaks I have ever had and it was great! I also enjoy it with my famous stoplight spaghetti, but it pairs equally well with burgers or pizza. For get-togethers or dinner parties, I always keep a bottle around. Prince Michel is also home to Rapidan River wines. This line produces some very nice "lighter" wines from riesling, to blushes, to a drier chardonnay.
I would recommend anyone, that has not experienced what Prince Michel has to offer, try a bottle today. For less than $12 bucks you can enjoy a great wine from Virginia that will not disappoint. As I said before, I have a lot of bottles to go through before I can say I have experienced the best that Virginia has to offer. If you have another winery in mind, feel free to praise your favorite and I will be sure to give it a try if I haven't already!
